Account Manager
Grows revenue from the existing portfolio: renewals, upsell, cross-sell and the long-term commercial relationship.
Why this hire matters.
In SaaS, the most profitable growth comes from existing customers: acquiring a new one costs 5-7x more than expanding a signed account, and net revenue retention has become THE metric investors scrutinize. The Account Manager owns that growth: securing renewals before they become crisis negotiations, spotting expansion opportunities (new use cases, new teams, new products) and maintaining the commercial relationship after the closing contact has faded. Without a dedicated AM, this work falls to AEs paid to hunt (they neglect it) or CSMs paid for adoption (they don't dare sell). Distinguish AM from CSM when hiring: the AM is a salesperson with an expansion quota — look for sales appetite, not just service orientation.
